A very beautiful song 'Karagim Ay' (composed by Kenes Duisekeev and Shomisbai Sariev) is about a father's love for his daughter, sung at her wedding day. However there is a story behind this song. The composer Kenes Duisekeev was thinking of his late father and how proud he would have been of Gulshat his daughter (the composer's sister) if only she had lived. She passed away at the age of 19 when the composer was still a boy of 7. Kenes wanted to write a tribute song to his sister and this was how Karagim Ay came to be. To sing this song, Dimash asked permission but the composer was doubtful he could sing the emotions of a father. They agreed to let Dimash sing in rehearsals before making a decision. Kenes was amazed at how Dimash was able to understand the true meaning of the song and hugged him after rehearsal. And now we are blessed to see Dimash's performance of such a beautiful melody. I was not there at Barclays Center, New York City on 10 December 2019 but I was online, multiple tabs on my browser open in both smartphone and laptop, ready to hop into livestreams wherever I could find them, YouTube, Facebook or Instagram.  It was night at New York but morning for me.  I knew that along with hundreds, thousands, even millions of other dears, I was on tenterhooks, nervous, jittery, excited.  I was even prepared not to see a thing as they said Barclays would not allow recording.  But luckily for those not there, recording and livestreaming went on without much of a hitch. On the 6th of December 2019, Dimash won 'Singer of The Year' at the top Russian music event of the year Песня года.  Valera Leontiev himself presented this award.  What an achievement for Dimash, this recognition of his excellence.  It just crowns the whole year for him. Dimash is a truly unusual artist whose liking for singing in multiple languages cause certain challenges for his fans.  Plus he likes his dears to sing along with him at his concerts and performances. Dimash was invited as a guest singer for Chinese network CCTV4's 'Universal Show' and he was in super top form!  Looks and vocals! Last month, Dimash sang on 'The Masked Singer' in China and his cover was blown from the get-go! His gorgeous leather golden eagle costume was specially made for him and oh my, the wings!  He made them spread at just the right moment in the song and wow, the effect was electric!  Actually he sang two songs; a duet with MC Jin on Backstreet Boys's 'I Want It That Way' and a cover of FIR's famous song 'Our Love'.  Broadcast was on 3 November 2019. Dimash Kudaibergen is a very unusual person, personality, singer, performer, whatever.  But he is very unusual. The Cambridge Advanced Learner's dictionary says that 'unusual'.means 'different from others of the same type in a way that is surprising, interesting or attractive.'  Well, that definitely fits our man Dimash. Way back in 2017, when I first learned about Dimash, the first place I went to to look for his songs was YouTube.  It was hard to find the songs then because a lot were in Chinese or Kazakh or Russian (which I only realised months later).  Then I went to Spotify.  There was not even one.  (I had not known about QQMusic then, which had lots of his songs.). I was so disappointed.  Then I became detemined that that disappointment would not be felt by others who went to Spotify to search for 'Dimash Kudaibergen'.  Even if they only found a playlist.  So I made a playlist of the songs he interpreted.  For me, he didn't cover them.  He made them new... he made them his own. I thought that the playlist would only last for a few months and then I could delete it.  But it just took a life of its own.  Much to my surprise, the playlist now has 3,409 followers. At the stroke of midnight, 14 June 2019, Dimash Kudaibergen's first digital album was released on QQ Music!  And the dears went crazy trying to buy the album with QQCoins and WeChat Pay.  Edit : This post was made on 13 June 2019 but due to a human glitch, it was reposted today.  Bummer.

I found out early that if I wanted to be able to get info about Dimash (or do stuff like vote for him), I needed to know his name in two different alphabets.  In Cyrillic alphabet, it's easy Димаш Құдайберген. But in Chinese, it's more difficult. So this is how I memorise his name in Chinese. I tell myself the first symbol is of a stylized man carrying a treasure. The treasure even has a handle. The second is a cart that will carry that treasure (see, it has grills at the back) and the third is a Kazakh horse that pulls the cart and treasure. So even when pics won't load, I can still locate Dimash's name in a voting list.

Dimash's new video is so full of imagery and symbolism that it's hard to talk about everything in it. So I decided to just talk about it in small 'bites'. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In this clip, the observer-narrator (Dimash)  sings of their struggle. At the start, the man and woman discover the wide open spaces away from their waterfall and go through an agony of decision-making... should they break away from their comfort zone or not? The song Passione speaks to me of an all-encompassing passion that takes  over one's life. A passion that delights, yet tortures and burns one up from within. For such a young man, Dimash displays an astonishing grace and elegance in his physical self as well as his way of interacting with the world. It is not merely his physical beauty and outstanding vocal talent that rivets people's attention and binds their admiration... it is his gentle consideration of those 'weaker' souls in communities (the children, the aged, the disabled...) and his championing of their status in society. He doesn't do this in an overt way... he models it through what he does every day of his life. This man is a true original and we are fortunate to witness his life and the effects of his choices in this generation.
