EP3 (February 19, 2026) in Turkestan

In this episode, the 8 singers presented their songs. Some stories were interwoven in the songs. Among them was the choosing of the song 'Mama' by Jeryl who heard the 'new farmer' sing for his girlfriend. It is a song of missing someone you love. Then there was the kobyz player Gohar Bek who was invited to play music although he thought it was just going to a casual singing session, not one with a large stage and judges. Very intriguing episode.
Nur Cholpon (Kyrgyzstan) – performed 'Kyrgyz Bata'
Zhang Xinyu (China) – performed 'New Dingjun Mountain'
Nurzhas Sadirbayev (Kazakhstan) – performed 'Mahabbat Ber Magan'
Giulia Falcone (Italy) – performed 'Spazio nel cuore'
Cai Chengyu (China) – performed 天涯放人梦 (Tianya gurenmeng)
Jeryl Lee Pei Ling (Malaysia) – performed 'Mama'
La Danzhu (China) – performed 'Migration'
Princ (Serbia) – performed 'Lejla'
EP4 (February 26, 2026) in Aktau
Mango TV website and YouTube and Photo Gallery
In this episode, the 8 singers went to Aktau and presented their songs at the seashore. Aktau, in the Mangystau region, is a major port city beside the eastern shore of the Caspian sea. The songs featured romantic reflection and showcased different facets of the 8 singers' talents.
I was pleasantly surprised by the creative flow of the episode from the pretty music by the sea to the way the singers got to find out the order of performance (watch it to know what I mean). Very very well done. Bravo, director Dimash! The inclusion of Li Yugang, a highly skilled and acclaimed Chinese actor and singer, added a lot of cachet to the episode.
Nur Cholpon (Kyrgyzstan) – performed 'Kaalay Belem' with her guitar
She was like an enchanting nymph wrapped in white lace with her pretty smile and gorgeous melody. Li Yugang said she sang a heavenly and healing song.
Zhang Xinyu (China) – performed 《珠帘寨》(Zhū lián zhài) 'Pearl Curtain Village'
She was sassy in black skirt and boots, mixing pop with Peking opera elements. The rap intro was a pleasant surprise. Definitely a great example of contemporary crossover! And Dimash said that he became a Chinese opera fan because of her! High praise indeed.
Giulia Falcone (Italy) – performed 'Underwater'
Very European in her rust red jacket, she presented a song she wrote when she was 13. Very emotional song about love. Li Yugang expressed his admiration for her ability to compose so well at so young an age.
Princ (Serbia) – performed 'Svet Sa Istoka' (Flower From The East)
Charming as always, he sang a love song about a flower from the east. Beginning with a gentle ethnic sound, he then segued into a rock interpretation, surprising his listeners. Handsome man with electric energy, what's not to like?
La Danzhu (China) – performed 《光》(Guang) which means 'light'
She looked so romantic in her frothy light blue dress, which suited the song very much. Li Yugang said her voice sounded like it came from the mountains and seas... like a baptism on people. I agree very much. There is something otherworldly about her voice.
Jeryl Lee Pei Ling (Malaysia) – performed 《晚风吹落雪花》(Wǎn fēng chuī luò xuěhuā) (The Evening Wind Blows The Snowflakes Away)
Cai Chengyu introduced her as the treasure from Malaysia with a soothing voice that calms all the ripples and brings the soul back to tranquility. Yes she has such a beautiful tone to her voice. You could listen to it forever. She received high praise from Dimash too, who said she sounded as if it was pre-recorded (i.e. perfect).
Cai Chengyu (China) – performed 《路》(lù) (The Road)
Oh what a refreshing breath of life Cai Chengyu is! With his open smile and open arms, he invited his audience into the energy of his song. The verve of the song suited the open stage so much, with the blue sea stretching far behind him. He truly was one with his song.
Nurzhas Sadirbayev (Kazakhstan) – performed Сугірдін Термесі ((Súgirdiń termesi) which means 'Words of Sugir'
He sang with full heart and voice. Incredible vocals and stage presence. He definitely gave his all, ending with a powerful high note.

EP6 (March 12, 2026) in Aktau

In this episode, the 2 mentors and 8 singers graced us with amazing performances... and the 8 presented songs in a different format... duets. Cai Chengyu the host commented at the beginning of the duets : 'When different musical styles, different languages and different cultures collide, what wonderful sparks will it bring?' And he with his duet partner La Danzhu started the musical combo festivities with a bang!
The episode started with the first mentor performance.
Li Yugang (China) – performed '新贵妃醉酒' Xīn guìfēi zuìjiǔ (The New Noble Consort's Drunkenness)
A definite master at his art, he performed this with deft elegance and gentleness.
Cai Chengyu (China) + La Danzhu (China) – performed '山河图' Shānhé tú (Mountains and Rivers Map)
They were at Bozhira Gorge when they were inspired to perform this song. Major inspiration! Loved the combination of styles! Both traditional and modern elements meshed together so well! Dimash called it a high level performance.
Nur Cholpon (Kyrgyzstan) + Giulia Falcone (Italy) – performed Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu aka Volare (In the Blue-Painted Blue Sky)
They were sublime... the two sang this song so very prettily. Li Yugang called them a perfect match. Their open smiles and crystal-clear voices seemed to actually paint the sky in swathes of light happiness. Watch it and you will see what I mean. This ability to touch the listener's heart is very precious.
Nurzhas Sadirbayev (Kazakhstan) + Princ (Serbia) – performed 'Тамо далеко' Tamo daleko (There, Far Away) and Самал тау Samal Tau (Samal Mountain)
Goosebumps broke out all along my arms when I heard them sing. First Nurzhas sang the Serbian song 'Tamo daLeko' and then Princ broke into the Kazakh lament 'Samal Tau'. You could feel their grief in every note. At the end, they clasped hands and hugged. Solidarity in historical pain. Incredible duet.... these men are a force together.
Jeryl Lee Pei Ling (Malaysia) + Zhang Xinyu (China) – performed 鱼儿说 Yú er shuō (The Fish Speaks)
The duet was classy and so sumptuous in an understated way. Mellow with sweet subtle surprises sprinkled throughout the song... even some Peking Opera moments. It felt as if two fairies delicately led the listener down a river path with gently flowing waters and floating butterflies. Fanciful, I know.. but that is what the duet sounded like. Fancy wrapped in lavender mist and pink kisses.
Dimash and Mansur Qudaibergen (Kazakhstan) – performed Самғау Samğau (Soar)
FIRST EVER PERFORMANCE OF THIS SONG! And what a powerful performance it was! I am convinced that Dimash could lead people into battle if he wanted. And did I hear an almost imperceptible snippet of the Flower Duet by Lakme?
DimashNews article has a great summary of the show up to this point.
EP7 (March 19, 2026)
The songbirds have now left the magnificent valleys and azure waters of Aktau for the City of Apples, glorious Almaty. This week's jury (together with Dimash) was Julia Peng Jia Hui who started the show by presenting a romantic song 喜歡两个人 Xǐhuān liǎng gèrén (Like Two People). Julia is an award winner; Golden Melody Award for Best Mandarin Female Singer in 2016 and was named best singer in Hakka at the 2023 Golden Melody Awards.
Zhang Xinyu (China) – performed 难解 Nán jiě (Difficult To Solve)
She walked out statuesque in a flowy black gown encrusted in crystals and sequins and sang something very far from her usual Chinese opera style. Ethnic music, reminiscent of distant skies and tall mountains... and she did it so well. Her voice echoed, as if sounding from deep within a well of ancient history. Exquisite.
Nurzhas Sadirbayev (Kazakhstan) – performed 'Per Te' (For You)
His voice was velvety smooth with a hint of rasp. He sang as if appealing with his entire being. As if offering his entire being to someone. I didn't know what the lyrics were about but I could feel his reaching out. Very emotive.
Nur Cholpon (Kyrgyzstan) – performed Анашым Anashym (My Mother)
She came onstage in a beautiful ethnic costume and sang an ode to her mother that started happy yet wistful and then became more joyful. Her lilting voice in this gentle song brought feelings and thoughts of a mother's comforting love. Nicely done.
Cai Chengyu (China) – performed '通天大道宽阔' Tōngtiān dàdào kuānkuò (The Broad And Wide Path To Heaven)
What a wild irrepressible performance! He sang as if going headlong into a joyful place. As Julia mentioned, it was definitely Sun Wukong-like. This man is crazily talented.
La Danzhu (China) – performed '波阿妞妞' Bō ā niūniū (ethnic Yi folk song)
What an impression she made in her traditional Yi ethnic attire, with the silver ornaments. She said that it was what Yi brides would wear. In her singing, you could feel pride, joy and somehow a plaintive yearning.
Princ (Serbia) – performed 'Ajša' (Aisa)
Singing a song of a love that crossed obstacles, he conveyed very well the sense of urgency and passion felt in such a relationship. This is definitely Princ's strength. And you could clearly see how comfortable he was onstage.
Jeryl Lee Pei Ling (Malaysia) – performed 鱼儿说 Chōngpò pí (Breaking Through)
She let herself sing free and unfettered. It could be because of the song itself as it speaks of breaking free. I loved the way she delivered the song... she really has a warm and resonant voice. Definitely a talent to watch.
Giulia Falcone (Italy) – performed Je Danse Seule (I Dance Alone)
She performed her self-composed song with very vibrant energy. There was a certain fairy-like quality about Giulia's singing... seemingly fragile and whispery but with a thread of determination. she sang it with full heart and she definitely connected with her audience.
I could really sense a stronger confidence in some of the artists. They are all established performers but perhaps some took longer to adapt to the new environment of the program.
I look forward to the next episode because I know they will be exploring Almaty. It is the number one city on my list of Kazakhstan places to experience.
