The composer Kenes Duisekeev was thinking of his late father and how proud he would have been of Gulshat his daughter (the composer's sister) if only she had lived. She passed away at the age of 19 when the composer was still a boy of 7. Kenes wanted to write a tribute song to his sister and this was how Karagim Ay came to be.
To sing this song, Dimash asked permission but the composer was doubtful he could sing the emotions of a father. They agreed to let Dimash sing in rehearsals before making a decision. Kenes was amazed at how Dimash was able to understand the true meaning of the song and hugged him after rehearsal. And now we are blessed to see Dimash's performance of such a beautiful melody.
