Oh, That Vocal Duel With The Guitar

One of my favourite things to see musicians do is dueling... or jamming... or whatever you call it when they let loose and play riffs off each other. Or just have marvelous fun with their music. Hence, one of my dreams would be to sit quietly in a corner (I don't even need to be fed!) in a room full of musicians jamming and dueling with Dimash. But, well, that's not likely to happen so the next best thing is watching him sing 'Qazaqstan' and have that duel with the guitarist. Yes, that still thrills me, even after 4 years. Today, exactly 4 years ago (on 20 October 2017), I encountered Dimash and fell down the rabbit hole. Still inside that hole and not likely to come out any time soon. Thank you, Dimash for a wonderful four years! Looking forward to many more!  https://youtu.be/vNKInGPanbg

'Duldul Dimash' : Phenomenal Dimash Documentary on KhabarTV April 2017

KhabarTV made a documentary about Dimash and broadcast it in April 2017.  It's something I think all fans of Dimash would love to see. Even veteran ones might find it heartwarming to rewatch. In early 2017, Dimash burst into the hearts and lives of many, on a level higher than he had previously experienced.  KhabarTV made this 'first' documentary about him and I feel it is very special because, at that time, he was a mystery to many and not as open as he is now. The documentary featured words by many artists of Kazakhstan as well as some moments of Dimash's life. Watching the video, you cannot help but feel the sense of awe and respect (as well as hope!) these people experience when they look at Dimash in performance. Thanks to Zhauhar-Dariya Yersaiynkyzy who wrote English subtitles to this documentary. Link to YouTube video :  https://youtu.be/-wg16gUre58

How Dimash Gets Through Photoshoots

Dimash's 2019 Activities in China In One Long 'Snapshot'

Here are all the events in China that Dimash participated in in 2019.

Dimash Studios on Weibo

Artists based in China have Weibo accounts called 'Studio' or 'Workshop' where others can see reposts of artists' posts, photos from shoots made on location at events, cartoons, posters, random announcements. So Dimash has one set up by an agency he was with. Yesterday I saw a new one. Hmmm, something tells me I should download what I can get off his old Dimash Studio.  'Old' Dimash Studio https://weibo.com/u/6107668188 'New' Dimash Studio https://weibo.com/u/7708246280

Dimash & TikTok

Well, I'm well and truly in TikTok because of Dimash Kudaibergen.  Never thought that day would come. But he is doing pretty well in TikTok.  Many new fans.  Now that's a good thing.  Most recently it was because of a TikTok shared by 'Voices of Gold'.

Dimash at 'New Wave Festival' 2021 : Sochi, Russia

Dimash was at Sochi, Russia from 19th to 25th August 2021 for New Wave 2021 (Новая волна).  Invited by Maestro Igor Krutoy (Игорь Крутой), Dimash was a jury member as well as guest performer.  The judging was for the International Competition for Young Pop Singers.  That week was an amazing week as Dimash premiered THREE amazing songs. He also sang two others ('I Miss You' and 'Your Love', both composed by Igor Krutoy.). 'Stranger' was premiered during the Opening Ceremony of New Wave. 'Fly Away' was premiered on the fourth day of New Wave. 'Ave Maria' was performed at the Closing Ceremony These three songs are totally amazing and require individual posts.  Absolute masterpieces.  Dimash is surrounded by great talents and they are so supportive of him.

The Story Behind 'Daididau' The Poem and Folk Song

While on the Internet, I found an article about the story behind 'Daididau' and it's the most 'complete' I've found so far.  It makes for very interesting reading.  Daididau : From Obscure Poem to Worldwide Hit https://medium.com/illumination/daididau-from-obscure-poem-to-worldwide-hit-b25e2ea74dd9 Excerpt : "A Silenced Poet It begins like a fairytale: Once upon a time there was a poet who was very much in love with his wife. Her name was Zuleikha Kurmanbaykizi, and his nickname for her was “Daididau.” Distant cousins and teenage sweethearts, they had been married off to other people by their parents, as was customary in their day. Only after they both became widowed at a young age were they able to build a life together. This young poet, Magzhan Zhumabayev, dearly loved his homeland.  At the time of his birth in 1893, Kazakhstan was being ruled by the Russian Czar .... The Kazakh people, however, aspired to self-governance." In the article, the writer

Dimash Singing In Spanish?

Once upon a time, I listened a lot to Julio Iglesias and he programmed into my head the beautiful romance of Spanish words in ballads. Came across this short clip of Dimash singing a line in Spanish and oh, how wonderful it sounds. This came from an episode of the Jing Talk Show which revealed many interesting things about Dimash. 'Love Like A Dream' 'Be With Me' 'Across Endless Dimensions'

Dimash's Official Social Media Accounts

Here is a list of Dimash's official social media accounts. It's good to know them as it will ensure that we always get the right info. He has the list on his YouTube channel too. Yes, I know I've shared this before. Dimash and Sundet Performed 'Tu Vas Me Detruire' So Beautifully in 'Big Opera 2016'

When Dimash was still in university, he was offered a position at Astana Opera State Theatre by the director, Toleubek Alpiyev.  He said that Dimash's voice would be 'ideal for baroque opera'.  But Dimash chose to pursue a career in contemporary music.  The offer was made after Dimash's duet with Sundet Baigozhin on a Russian competition for young opera singers 'Big Opera 2016'.   They sang an aria 'Tu Vas Me Détruire' from the musical 'Notre Dame De Paris'.  At that time, Sundet was representing Kazakhstan on the international project 'Big Opera 2016'.  Notre-Dame de Paris is a sung-through French musical which debuted on 16 September 1998 in Paris. It is based upon the novel Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame) by the French novelist Victor Hugo. The music was composed by Riccardo Cocciante (also known as Richard Cocciante) and the lyrics are by Luc Plamondon. Here is a link direct to this performance on the official Big Op

Xiaonan Sun and His Thoughts On Dimash

I don't generally watch reactors although I make an exception for some YouTube channels.  One of those channels is Portraitart. The channel owner  Xiaonan Sun  is a crazily-talented artist, a deep thinker and I just love his insights into Dimash. He makes illuminating comments, such as the state of the mind of the younger generation. He shared a story about how he was attacked once for making a 3-line comment on YouTube because it was so long (he commented on how this is very revealing of YouTube primary demographic) and he seems to really appreciate the paragraphs of thoughtful comments he gets under his Dimash reaction videos. He feels that Dimash creates music that changes people (I don't remember his exact words) and I totally agree with him.    A few days ago, he made a reaction to 'Adai and Daididau' at BASTAU.  He sees things in visual form and he said he 'saw' a pebble fall into still waters and ripple out in waves of colours. Needless to say, he was ver

Marigolds by Dimash

Last year, at Kiev Concert, Dimash sang a Ukrainian song called 'Chornobryvtsi' (Marigolds). He sang it so gently, so tenderly... I could almost visualise him walking in a garden of #marigolds, his fingers barely touching the petals so as not to bruise them. And his mama Miua beside him.  Dimash has the genius of choosing songs that can touch hearts, crossing barriers of race, culture and even language. Or perhaps it is his interpretation that carries these songs over those barriers. Well, whatever it may be, whenever I think of marigolds or of mothers,  I will think of Chornobryvtsi. Marigolds (lyrics translated from Ukrainian to English) Marigolds were planted by my mom In my morning native land And she taught me how to sing spring songs About my flowering hope When I look at those marigolds I see my aging mother I see your hands, mommy, Your kind words I hear, my dear  I've known partings and encounters In the foreign lands Marigolds from the native land That you plante

The Indefinable Quality of Dimash's Voice

What is it about Dimash's voice that has this indefinable quality... it's not only the sound but it's also the feel of his sound. When he sings, his voice seems to actually flow over you and sink into your heart, mind, soul... and the strange thing is not everyone gets it or experiences it.  But those who do... oh wow, they go into rhapsodies and spend hours just listening to him sing. One of my favourite 'feel' Dimash songs is 'I Miss You'. When he goes low, his sound shivers over my skin and just makes me feel like I want to keep hearing it. And when he goes high, my heart jumps into my throat and I hold my breath because I don't want to miss a single note. It's like a wash of magical emotion over me. I wish I could describe it better. The effect is more obvious when he performs to a live audience... Here is a video of his performance of 'I Miss You' at Moscow (2020).  I love the way he looks at his dears standing at the edge of the stage

Kieli Meken (Holy Land)

Yet another beautiful work of art from Dimash.  And presented as a gift for Nauryz spring holiday in Kazakhstan. What a sweet thing to do...  More information about it here  https://en.dimashnews.com/song-from-dimash-digital-show-published-in-honor-of-the-nauryz-holiday/ 'Kieli Meken' (Holy Land) was first presented at Dimash's Digital Show on 16 January 2021 and it was one of three new songs.  Although actually Dimash updates his songs every time he performs them... they are hardly ever the same. Kieli Meken is a grand burst of tones, both vocal and instrumental.  You get to hear rock and also folk melodies.  And I do so love the strong drum beat punctuating every twist and every turn. The melody was written by Erbolat Kudaibergen and the lyrics by Kanat Aitbayev.  The director for the performance was Anna Oboianska and the sound engineer was Erlan Bekchurin.  The dancers and choreography were from Foresight Dance Theatre (Ukraine)... don't they look good, supporting

Dimash : What The Universe Wanted

Dimash Eurasian Fan Club made a tribute video to Dimash which I found really touching.  And they had combined audio of Dimash himself sharing some of his thoughts.  They are worth knowing. "I remember that I have been performing onstage from the age of five.  I feel at home on stage.  Relaxed and free, because I trust my listeners, the listeners trust me.  We have some kind of magical connection. I have dreamed of becoming an artist since childhood.  I never thought about getting another profession.  "First of all, being an artist is a great happiness.  Happiness is when you are loved." "That's what the universe wanted, I don't know." #dimash #迪玛希 #Димаш

Dimash Has Me Entranced

One of the reasons I'm still hopelessly lost in Dimash's world of entrancing music is that I keep encountering jaw-dropping performances that he puts on for us and I never get tired of viewing them. One special performance was 'Love of Tired Swans' with Igor Krutoy at MUZ-TV 2019 Awards show. He sang so beautifully on an incredibly mesmerising stage with amazing dancers telling the story with lush visuals and enchanting effects. Then, as if all that wasn't enough, there was a few moments with a swan in a water column. I'm enchanted!

Dimash... Charismatic To The Nth Degree

One of the first things I noticed about Dimash way back in 2017 was how good he was at pulling people's eyes to him.  Practically riveting those helpless people's eyes to him.  It's awesome to watch this happen.  Naturally, I'm one of his hapless victims. Magnetism, charisma, aura... call it what you may, he has it by the boatload. Dimash Kudaibergen Today, I was on the Internet looking for stuff to toss at my students during online classes.  And I found something interesting.  An article titled 'What Makes People Charismatic'.  It says that there are three pillars of charisma. One is PRESENCE.  Being in the moment.  Being there in the place, with the people. Nothing is as magnetic as someone who is interested in you.  Dimash has this in spades, I'm sure you agree. Another is POWER.  Believing you are where you are meant to be.  Believing you are worthy and that your skills and passion have value and are interesting to others.  Yep, another tick for Dimash.

'Dimash Digital Show' 16 January 2021

Dimash premiered his 'Dimash Digital Show' on the 16th of January 2021 and oh what a glorious extravaganza it was.. very rich and lush.  It wasn't a live online concert and was more like a sequence of performances with visual effects.  Later on, during an interview, Dimash revealed the recording took place over the space of a day and night.   He opened the show looking bright in a maroon red suit, sitting in a room watching a video of himself performing and then launching into 'Ogni Pietra'.  Then he moved out of the room and onto a stage with a band.  With scarcely a beat, Dimash went on to the next song 'Give Me Your Love'... and for the first time, I really really felt the song.  It's actually a song with shades of the Mo-town sound, making you think of the Jacksons but yet uniquely Dimash's sound.  The first few times he performed it, I didn't 'feel' it.  But this time I did.  He had the right vibes... very right.    'Give Me Your
