When I first started following Dimash, the first thing that struck me was the overwhelming realization that I was witnessing a prodigy. A true prodigy. No other word feels adequate.
I had lived long enough, listened to enough singers, and explored enough genres of music to know when I was hearing something genuinely extraordinary. My taste has always been eclectic, and because of that, I recognised immediately that Dimash possessed a rare and exceptional gift.
What surprised me, however, was that not everyone seemed to see it. Yes, he was already causing chaos in airports and arenas across China, drawing huge crowds and intense reactions wherever he went. But outside of that, I often found myself wondering: why weren’t more people talking about him? Were they simply not hearing what I was hearing?
Over time, I’ve come to understand that people experience art differently. Not everyone connects to the same voice, the same performance, or the same emotional impact.
What makes me genuinely happy, though, is that many highly respected and accomplished figures in the music industry do recognise that Dimash is something truly special.
Some of them appear in Virtuosos — a classical music talent competition dedicated to discovering exceptional talent at the highest levels. The title of the programme is fitting, because these are people who understand excellence. And they absolutely love Dimash.
